| Which tower is leaning more? At first glance, the tower on the right looks like it's leaning farther, but the two images are exactly the same. The tower on the right looks like it leans farther only when compared with the tower beside it. Its funny how things appear differently when compared to other things. A white sheep looks pristine against a grassy field, but the same sheep looks dirty when you put it in a field of snow. We automatically think in this way with other things, like whether we are good enough to go to Heaven. We want to judge our "goodness" based on other people, rather than based on God's standard, the Ten Commandments. God's standard is infinitely higher than our own. Take the seventh commandment for example: "You shall not commit adultery." Jesus explained what that meant when he said, "Whoever looks upon a woman to lust after her has committed adultery already with her in his heart." Have you ever been guilty of looking with lust? Have you ever told even one lie, or stolen even one item (regardless of its value)? If you have, then God sees you as a liar and a thief.
Picture yourself in a courtroom, guilty of many serious crimes... The fine is DEATH. You are being led off to the execution, when the judge himself steps down and takes your punishment for you - he sacrifices his own life for yours! Justice has been served and you get to go free. Youre still guilty, but someone else paid your fine for you! Thats what Jesus Christ did for sinners 2,000 years ago. He paid the penalty for sin (the death penalty) by taking Gods wrath on the cross. He defeated death by rising from the dead three days later.
The Bible says, But God commends his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8) For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16) God promises eternal life to those who turn from their sins and place their faith in Jesus Christ alone to save them. Dont be foolish! Dont put it off until tomorrow... You may not have tomorrow. Then read your Bible and obey what you read. Please visit www.SaveYourselfSomePain.com |
